Maruti Suzuki India Limited – India’s largest automaker, a 9.5% increase in sales in October 2017. The company sold a total of 1,46,446 units out of which domestic sales stood at 1,36,000 units and exports were at 10,446 units. This was against 1,33,793 units sold in October 2016.
The company’s most preferred models, Alto and WagonR sales dipped 4.2% to 32,490 units in October 2017 as against 33,929 units sold in October 2016. Compact cars, which included the Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S, sales increased 24.7% to a total of 62,480 units, as compared to 50,116 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Ciaz sales dipped 35.4% to 4,107 units as compared to 6,360 units sold in October 2016. Utility vehicle sales increased 29.8% with the company selling 23,382 units in October 2017 as compared to 18,008 units in the same month of the previous year. This was largely due to the attention received by the Vitara Brezza of which 15,000 units were sold last month.
Toyota India – Toyota Kirloskar Motors sold 14,000 units in October 2017, registering 6% growth as compared to total sales in October 2016. Of this, 12,403 units were sold in domestic markets and 1,597 units were exported which largely consisted of the Etios series. In October 2016, the company sold 11,651 units in domestic markets and 974 units were exported.
Demand for the Toyota Innova Crysta and Fortuner continued to remain strong throughout the festive season and the company has planned increased plant capacity to ensure shorter waiting periods. New launches of Etios Cross X-Edition and Fortuner TRD Sportivo also received excellent response from buyers primarily due to its attractive exteriors and stylish interiors.
Mahindra and Mahindra – The country’s leading UV maker, reported a 2% dip in sales in October 2017 even as the new KUV100 NXT was launched in the country. Sales of passenger vehicles, which included UVs, cars and vans, dipped 5% and stood at 23,413 units in October 2017 as against 24,737 units sold in October 2016.
Commercial vehicle sales increased 7% with 19,279 units sold in October 2017 as against 18,059 units sold in October 2016. Exports also suffered in October 2017 with 2,331 units exported as against 3,279 units exported in October 2016, a drop of 29%.
Tata Motors – Tata Motors has reported cumulative growth of 5% in both domestic and commercial vehicle sales in India during October 2017. The company sold 48,886 units in the past month as against sales in October 2016. Exports were at 4,311 units in October 2017, a decline of 32% as compared to exports in October 2016 with substantially less number of vehicles exported to both Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Passenger vehicle sales in domestic markets saw a 1% increase to 16,457 units as compared to sales in October 2016 with special emphasis shown to the Tiago, Tigor and Hexa models. Taking cumulative sales into account, passenger vehicles in domestic markets were at 97,892 units in the period April to October 2017, an increase of 10% as compared to 88,976 units sold in the same period of the previous year.
Ford India – Sales of Ford India dipped substantially in October 2017 with 15,033 units sold as against 22,043 units sold in October 2016 registering de-growth of 32%. Domestic sales stood at 4,218 units in the past month as compared to 7,508 units sold in October 2016 and exports also dipped 25% to 10,815 units in October 2017 as against 14,535 units exported in October 2016.
Hyundai India – Hyundai India also reported de-growth in October 2017. Domestic sales stood at 49,588 units in the past month as compared to 50,017 units sold in October 2016. Demand was shown for the Grand i10, i20 and Creta while the new Verna also received customer attention with over 20,000 cumulative bookings and 15,000 inquiries. Even as the company has not declared its exports for October 2017, Hyundai India is eager to introduce new models by the end of this year and focus on exports of the new Verna to global markets.
Honda Cars India – For the month of October 2017, sales of Honda Cars India declined by 8%. The company posted sales of 14,234 units last month, as against 15,567 units sold in October 2016.
