After getting off to a flying start at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix last weekend, Lewis Hamilton has ordered a LaFerrari for himself. The 31 year old racer joins another celebrity, Chef Gordon Ramsay, famed for his TV shows such as “Kitchen Nightmares” who also bought the exclusive Ferrari recently.
Lewis Hamilton paid $1.5 million (Rs 10 crores) for this hybrid limited edition supercar. LaFerrari is the fastest and most powerful Ferrari till date. It has a top speed of over 350 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 200 kmph in 7 seconds.
This purchase by Lewis Hamilton has been confirmed by Toto Wolff, Mercedes AMG Petronas team principle. Speaking to a reporter, he said that Mercedes has no problem with Lewis owning a Ferrari. With the new LaFerrari, list of cars owned by Lewis Hamilton now includes Pagani Zonda 760LH, few Mercedes-AMG’s and a Shelby Mustang GT500.
Ferrari LaFerrari is powered by a 6.3 liter V12 engine with a KERS system, and an electric motor. This engine offers peak power of 789 hp at 9,000 rpm and 700 Nm torque at 7,000 rpm while its electric motor is capable of 161 hp and 270 Nm torque to take total power output to 950 hp.
Hamilton is not the first F1 driver to purchase a LaFerrari while under contract with Ferrari’s opponents on track. In 2014 Sebastian Vettel also purchased a Ferrari (for his dad) while driving for Red Bull.
