Castrol Edge: Titanium Strong Blackout challenge

Castrol Edge has recruited YouTube sensation, Ken Block, as the fourth driver in the first Titanium Trial of 2014: Titanium Strong Blackout. Ken, who is recognised by ESPN as one of the most influential action sport athletes in the world, will be joining Augusto Farfus (BMW Motorsport works driver / DTM), Mike Rockenfeller (Audi Sport works driver / DTM) and Adrian Zaugg (Lamborghini Squadra Corse test driver) to take on the world’s first state-of-the art racetrack drenched in darkness.

Ken, along with the other drivers, will use his skill and motoring expertise to showcase the full performance capabilities of Castrol EDGE boosted with TITANIUM FST. Renowned for his jaw-dropping car stunts, Ken will be pushing the limits of what can be done behind the wheel in his 2014 Ford Fiesta ST RX43. His expertise and fancy wheel work will add depth to the other drivers to produce a winning combination team.

The thought of the drivers attacking a racetrack shrouded in darkness at high speeds, tackling obstacles created entirely out of beams of light, is sure to get fans around the world talking.

In addition to the visual spectacle of pitch black racing, lasers and synchronised 100m beams of light, viewers will also see blacked out Lamborghinis. BMW M4s and Audi R8s performing moves that they won’t have seen anywhere else before.

The Titanium Trials, announced in Geneva in March earlier this year, are a series of high-powered driving challenges marking the launch of Castrol EDGE boosted with TITANIUMFST™– Castrol’s most advanced and strongest motor oil to date. Titanium Strong Blackout, the first of a series of Trials, is a racetrack shrouded in darkness with obstacles created out of beams of light. It is designed in four sections, involving a four-car relay, creating a race against the lightsto test the strength of man, machine and Castrol EDGE as they perform in sync like never before. A laser donut box, a 100m high column of light and a dual drift are just some of the challenges the drivers face, pushing themselves and their cars to the limits. The film will be launched globally at 12:00 GMT on Tuesday 27th May.

Ken Block commented: “The Titanium Strong Blackout Trial that I participated in was definitely a first for me,” said Block. “I’ve never run my car flat-out in a dark setting with no headlights before, so that was definitely a new challenge for me. Combine that factor with the light obstacles dancing around and I can honestly say it’s one of the more entertaining and unique things I’ve done in my driving career. I’m stoked that I was able to be involved in this project.”
