Today in New Delhi, Maruti Suzuki will launch a car which we are all familiar with, the Celerio. First launched more than a year ago at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, till today, the car was available with petrol engine only. From today, it will be available with a diesel engine. First images of Celerio diesel are now LIVE on the company’s official website.
This new diesel engine is completely built ground-up by Maruti Suzuki. It is the lightest and smallest diesel engine ever to feature on a production car. Mated to a five speed manual transmission, this engine delivers a mileage of 27.62 kmpl on board the new Celerio.
Power output of this 793 cc twin cylinder engine stands at 125 Nm torque and 47.6 PS power. This means, when compared to the 1.3l diesel engine seen on board the Swift; the Celerio diesel engine is much more torquey and efficient per every cc. Celerio diesel engine delivers 0.16 Nm torque per cc, while Swift diesel delivers 0.15 Nm torque per cc.
Weighing 89 kgs, the new diesel engine has made the car 70 kgs heavier as compared to its petrol counterpart. The added weight is not just due to the engine, but also due to the structural changes Maruti engineers had to incorporate in order to accommodate the new engine unit.
To be branded as Celerio 125 DDiS, the car will be offered in a choice of four trims – LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi(O). Top of the line Celerio diesel will come with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, alloy wheels, steering mounted controls, security system, front fog lamps, tilt steering, body coloured electric ORVM with turn indicators, auto unlock on crash, tachometer, and keyless entry.
