The newest vehicle to come in the ring is the Maruti Celerio diesel. With an ARAI backed fuel efficiency claim of 27.62 kmpl, Maruti Celerio ZDi is the most fuel efficient car in India. It is fitted with a 793cc diesel engine offering 47bhp at 3,500 rpm and 12.7kgm at 2,000 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Conversely, the Chevrolet Beat LT variant is powered by a three-cylinder, 1.0 liter engine capable of 56 bhp and 15.3kgm and offers mileage at 25.44 kmpl. The third competitor Hyundai Grand i10, offers 24 kmpl and receives a 1.0 litre, three cylinder diesel engine delivering 70bhp power and 16.29kgm torque.
Speaking about kerb weight, Grand i10 is heaviest at 1,093 kgs as against the Celerio diesel that weighs between 880-900 kgs and the Beat diesel engine that has total weight of 1,024 kgs.
Another point of comparison between Maruti Celerio ZDi, Chevrolet Beat LT and Hyundai Grand i10 Asta lies in its interior space. Out of the trio, it is the Celerio that has the most internal space specially at the rear, followed by the Grand i10 which has equitable space at the front and rear as well as a spacious boot.
