Police caught on video thrashing Honda Dio scooter parked on road

Two police men who were on patrol duty, blatantly damaged a scooter which was parked at the Chennai War Memorial. The video has gone viral and the two cops have been placed under suspension. The video shows off the cops arriving on the scene where the Honda Dio scooter was parked.

One of the cops is seen using a cane to destroy the scooter which was parked between a barricade and two corporation bins at Sathya Nagar. The scooter was vandalized in full public view. The Home Guard on patrol duty, continued to thrash the scooter, even after the owner arrived on the scene. Special Sub Inspector watched the entire scene from inside the patrol vehicle, without taking any action.

Damage to the scooter was huge. The dome lights were broken along with the indicators. Plastic body parts were also damaged. Surprisingly, the owner arrives on the scene and speeds off with his bike without any argument with the police. The video can be seen below.

The cops do not realize that they are being recorded on camera by passerby. It is only after the rider is gone with the scooter, the home guard notices a passerby shooting the video. He then notifies the SSI about it. The SSI then asks the passerby what is he doing and orders him to delete the video.

Thanks to the video footage, both cops have been identified. One is Home Guard Mohan while the SSI is identified as Hari Babu of the Fort Police Station. The video was first posted 2-3 days ago. The incident could have occurred on Wednesday or Thursday of last week. Fort Police Inspector, Munnaswamy, when contacted said he had no knowledge of the issue. A probe into the incident has been ordered, even as the Home Guard and SSI have been placed under suspension.

Inquiry into the incident revealed that the rider had come to the spot to buy some ganja / weed. As per the cops, he had been warned on previous occasions to not park the scooter on the road and also not to buy / consume drugs. Though the scooter may have been wrongly parked and the rider taking part in nefarious activities, as per law, the cops have no right to take such a stand and damage the scooter. This kind of action certainly calls for suspension of the cops and further inquiry into the issue.
