New Chevrolet Beat Essentia sub-4 metre sedan was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 next week. The car which is reported to be under development since 2013 would hit the market in 2017.
Spied on test for the first time, new Chevy Beat Essentia sedan will be positioned below the Sail sedan. It would be aiming to garner some much needed sales volume for the brand. The Chevy compact sedan will go head on against the Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Volkswagen Ameo.
The Essentia is reported to adopt the hatchback sibling’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine and 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. A 5-speed manual transmission would be standard. Visually, the car follows Chevrolet’s global design language with dual-port grille.
On the inside, Essentia gets a dual tone dashboard with a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system. Surprisingly, the steering wheel comes without any controls. Storage space is ample. Seating is for upto 5 adults.
GM’s ailing Indian subsidiary is in a dire need of portfolio overhaul. As part of the plan, they will launch Beat, Beat Activ, Essentia and a new compact SUV in India to bring in more sales to the brand.
The American automaker last launched the Trailblazer SUV based on ladder frame chassis. In a bid to improve operating efficiency, the company would be shuttering its Halol plant in Gujarat and shift its entire production operations to the Talegoan facility in Maharashtra in the future.
