Chevrolet Beat sedan (Essentia) exports commence from India
The sedan share its powertrain lineup with the new Beat hatchback.
New Chevrolet Beat sedan was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 last year as the Essentia Concept. The car which has been under development since 2013, has finally been launched. Sadly, not for India.
Yes, GM India has shut sales operations. These cars they make here in India, are only to serve the export market. The first batch of the Beat sedan has now been exported to markets in Latin America. A consignment of 1200 Chevrolet Beat sedans was today loaded for shipping to Latin America, following the start of production on June 5, 2017 – GM India.
The Beat sedan is reportedly powered by the same engine options as seen on Beat hatchback. These are 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine and 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. A 5-speed manual transmission would be standard.
Exteriors sport chrome mesh dual segment hexagonal grille, body colored bumpers and a distinctive company logo. Chrome ORVM caps, body colored door handles and flared fenders will also be evident along with tubeless radial tyres and alloy wheels. On the inside, Beat Sedan gets a dual tone dashboard with a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system. Surprisingly, the steering wheel comes without any controls. Storage space is ample. Seating is for upto 5 adults.
GM India is one of the largest car exported in the country. This, and the fact that they failed to make their place in the growing Indian auto industry, has resulted in them deciding to shut down sales operations in the country.
