Chevrolet India’s football turf for slum kids in Kolkata – Video

As part of the GM India CSR initiative, Chevrolet along with Manchester United has built a new football turf for Rebecca Belilious English Institution

This football ground which was once a dump yard filled with dirt and mud now brings immense opportunities to children, changing their lives forever.

Officially opened in May this year, in presence of former Manchester United player, Mikael Silvestre. It is now that Chevrolet India shares a video of the same, explaining how it has changed the life of many slum kids forever.

The pitch is located at Tikiapara, Howrah in Kolkata and offers a safe haven for poor children and local community. The ground is used as a venue for local events and matches. It is a part of the Chevrolet initiative to showcase sports which offers future possibilities for those children who are otherwise deprived.

Former Manchester United player, Mikael Silvestre played football with the slum kids at the inauguration.

As announced by P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, Chevrolet India has rebuilt this ground, encouraging students to stay at school and witness the change that education and football can make in their lives. Chevrolet and Coaches Across Continents (CAC) have also devised a program for the local football coaches while new coaches are trained in the sport. CAC will continue to monitor the program with curriculum designed for the specific purpose.

Besides the Kolkata facility, Chevrolet has also been involved in other football pitches located in Bangkok (Thailand), Bandung (Indonesia), Chicago (USA) and Hammanskraal (South Africa). The company is also planning programs across the globe as a part of the company sponsorship of of Manchester United and partnership with the One World Play Project.
