At the launch of the new Sail sedan in Mumbai, Anil Mehrotra, CFO, GM India, said that their new product will compete in a segment which sees monthly sales of 40,000 units (480k annually). This means, that GM India hopes to sell 10% of the total sales made in the segment. Being an entry level sedan, Sail is now available in a segment which holds a massive 23% of the total sales in Indian auto industry.
Hoping to benefit from this, GM India and its subsidiary, Chevrolet India are aiming to sell 48,000 units of Sail sedan in India during 2013. The news was revealed by P Balendram, VP, GM India, at a recent conference in Kochi, reports PTI. He added that the company had laid out state-wise targets, for Kerala, the monthly sales target for Sail is at 300 units. Speaking about exporting Indian made Sail sedan, he says there is no need for that now, cause the Chinese plant is able to meet that demand as it exports Sail to 16 countries.
Will GM India manage to meet their target of 48,000 units sales of Sail sedan, will only be revealed with time. Offerered in a choice of 7 exterior colors, Sail is priced in the range of INR 4.99 lakhs to INR 6.41 lakhs for petrol variant and INR 6.29 lakhs to INR 7.51 lakhs for the diesel variant.
