Chevrolet Spin spied in India, to sit above Enjoy and Tavera?
Chevrolet Spin personal MPV is currently selling in Indonesia and Brazil, where Multi Purpose Vehicles are much welcomed. It is a 4.3 metre car, much like Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and upcoming Renault Lodgy (in Indian market’s perspective). Developed by GM Brazil, the people mover measures 4,361 mm x 1,735 mm x 1,664 mm (length x width x height) and has wheelbase of 2,619 mm.
Spin is offered with multiple engine choices including petrol, diesel and ethanol, of displacements ranging from 1.2 litre to 1.8 litre, mated to 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions sending power to front wheels.
It is a surprise that Chevrolet Spin test mule was spied in India as General Motors haven’t given any hint of launching such a product here. The American automaker currently has Enjoy MPV and Tavera in India taking care of domestic and commercial market needs for gang mobility.
Next major product launch from Chevrolet India can be expected only around 2017, with a possible compact SUV based on Adra concept, unveiled at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. It is based on GM’s global small-vehicle (sub-compact) front wheel drive platform named Gamma 2. Chevrolet Adra will be targeting the compact crossover segment ruled by Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport at present.
