Volunteers and staff tested the glass bottom bridge in China with sledgehammers and a Volvo XC90 SUV to prove its safety.

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Bridge in China, suspended 300 meters above the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon in Zhangjiajie National Park of central Hunan province is a bridge which has glass floor. Yes, transparent glass. So when you are walking on this bridge, you will be having a feeling of walking in the air.

But this is not first such bridge. There was another one in the same province. After it opened to public, it developed a crack in one of the glass and was soon shut. This has resulted in tourists staying away from trying the new glass bridge.

In order to prove the strength of the new glass bridge, the makers are trying every stunt possible. Recentlly, a group of volunteers and staff subjected the bridge to a test by hitting it with sledgehammers. Apart from a few broken pieces of glass, nothing happened to the bridge. If this was not enough, they brought in a fully loaded Volvo XC90 SUV with 11 passengers to pass through the glass bridge. The car managed to drive across the bridge successfully.

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Bridge is the longest and highest glass bridge in the world. It will be opening for tourists from July 2016.
