India Bound Citroen C5 Aircross Awarded 4 Star In Euro NCAP

Citroen C5 Aircross is the newest addition to the Citroen Aircross family of crossover compact SUVs. It takes the place of the C4 Aircross which was pulled out of production in 2017. The C5 comes in with a host of safety equipment which is offered as standard allowing it to achieve a 4 Star rating in Euro NCAP. The variant with extra safety pack scored a full 5 star.

The new Citroen C5 Aircross has been awarded 33.4 points out of 38 for adult occupancy and 42.6 points out of 49 for child occupancy. In terms of pedestrian safety, the Citroen C5 Aircross was awarded 27.9 out of 47 and for safety assist systems scored 9.8 out of 13. Euro NCAP has declared the Citroen C5 Aircross as ‘good’ across all parameters except for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, for which it was labeled as “marginal”.

This rating can be increased to 5 stars with Safety+ Pack which is offered as an option. This includes a radar sensor attached to the camera to augment performance for AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian and cyclist detection. Safety+ pack is available in all markets and across all variants.

It should be noted that the Euro NCAP rating varies from the Global NCAP rating. While C5 Aircross has received 4 star rating in Euro NCAP, it could achieve a higher 5 star rating in Global NCAP. Euro NCAP takes into account four aspects of driver + passenger safety, child safety, vulnerability to road users and driver assist features while on the other hand Global NCAP only accounts for driver + passenger and child safety scores for their tests.

Citroen C5 Aircross safety features include 6 airbags, seat belts with pre-tensioners, load limiters, seat belt reminders and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The C5 Aircross is positioned on the Groupe PSA’s EMP2 platform. It will be the company’s first BS VI compliant vehicle to launch in India with sales set to commence by the end of 2020.

CItroen C5 Aircross will be powered by a 1.5 liter turbocharged, diesel engine offering 130 hp power and mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox. It will be produced from the CK Birla’s facility in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. It will take on the likes of Volkswagen Tiguan upon launch in India.
