The cleanest and dirtiest railway stations in India – Official Report

A recent survey conducted on cleanest railway stations in the country was based on passenger feedback. While Beas railways station in Punjab was positioned at the top of the list, Gujarat saw a total of 5 of its railway stations on this list of cleanest railway stations in India.

Gujarat’s Gandhidham, Jamnagar, Surat, Rajkot and Ankleshwar stations were among the cleanest along with the Vasco da Gama railway station in Goa, Kumbakanom and Salem in Tamil Nadu and Nasik Road station in Maharashtra.

Among dirtiest stations in the country, Madhubani, Bhaktiyarpur, Anugraha Narayan, Sagauli and Ara are in Bihar while Bhallia, Shahjang, Janghai and Pratapgarh are in UP.

The survey was conducted at 407 major railway stations in the country and over 1,30,000 persons were surveyed. Passengers were surveyed on the basis of overall cleanliness, taking into account 40 different parameters, while sanitation at stations, stench, lack of dustbins and unclean platforms ranked among their biggest concern.

With the survey completed, the final report was released by the Railway Minister on Tuesday. On the basis of this report, the ministry has already issued instructions to zonal headquarters so that immediate action is taken to spruce up railways stations while the ministry plans more such surveys in the future as a part of the ‘Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat’ mission.
