Maruti YBA compact crossover has been spied testing again. The sub-4 metre entrant from the nation’s largest automaker is expected to play a major role in spiking the brand’s market share to a new level, as it will cater to one of the high-demand segments.Maruti YBA will compete with segment leading Ford EcoSport, and upcoming products like Mahindra S101, Volkswagen Taigun and Tata Nexon. While Maruti YBA is expected to launch in first quarter of 2016, probably in January, Mahindra S101 would launch later this year and the remaining two cars after YBA.
Engine options for YBA compact crossover are still pretty hazy, but both petrol and diesel choices are expected without a doubt. Petrol version could use wither the acclaimed 1.2 litre 4-cylinder K-Series engine or the totally new 1.0 litre Boosterjet turbo motor showcased in the Suzuki iK-2 concept at 2015 Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. Diesel variant could opt for the widely used 1.3 litre MultiJet engine sourced from Fiat, or receive the new self-developed diesel engine.
Expect Maruti YBA compact SUV to be positioned in the price range of Rs. 5.5 lakhs to 8.0 lakhs (ex-showroom), to threaten the competition.
