
Positioned above the sub 4m SUV space, compact SUV segment is a prominent one. That’s because this segment brings more profits for a brand and volume potential is impressive too. However, December 2024 was slightly dry for this segment, just like others. There are fewer buyers at year-end scenarios and sales will prosper in January 2025.
Compact SUV Sales Dec 2024
There are eleven ICE and three EV contenders in this segment, thus taking the total to thirteen. Hyundai Creta topped the sales chart again, like clockwork. With the launch of Creta Electric on January 17th, sales prospects will further improve. In December 2024, Creta sold 12,608 units and contributed to 29.70% of total compact SUV sales.
Creta registered 36.41% YoY growth over 9,243 units sold in December 2023, gaining 3,365 units in volume and 18.41% MoM decline when compared to 15,452 units sold in November 2024, losing 2,844 units in volume. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara took 2nd place with 7,093 units sold last month and saw 1.50% YoY growth and 30.10% MoM decline. Market share was 16.71%.
In 3rd place, we have Tata Motors’ new Curvv and Curvv EV at a combined figure of 4,994 units. As opposed to the 5,101 units sold in November 2024, Curvy saw sales drop by 2.10% MoM. Toyota Hyryder took 4th place with 4,770 units sold last month. Hyryder sales fell into the red completely, registering 4.14% YoY and 1.79% MoM decline, losing 206 units and 87 units in volume, respectively.
Kia Seltos took 5th position with 2,830 units. There’s a new generation of Seltos currently under testing with Telluride-inspired boxy design. When compared to 9,957 units sold a year ago and 5,364 units sold a month before, Kia Seltos sales more than halved YoY at 71.58% decline and almost halved MoM at 47.24% decline.
Citroen sold 175 units combined
Skoda Kushaq slightly edged Volkswagen Taigun, but both registered very close numbers at 2,465 and 2,335 units respectively. There was YoY decline with Kushaq and Taigun at 0.80% and 4.93%, but gained massively MoM at 61.75% and 55.98% respectively. Honda Elevate sales almost halved YoY with 2,334 units as opposed to 4,376 units sold a year ago with 46.66% decline. However, Elevate registered MoM growth of 39.93%.
Mahindra XUV400 showed good growth last month with 1,296 units sold and 142.24% YoY growth and 29.60% MoM growth. It will be replaced by XUV3XO EV soon. Interestingly, MG ZS EV sold 858 units, while its ICE counterpart, Astor, sold 700 units. ZS EV fell into the green completely with 84.91% YoY and 77.64% MoM growth. Astor registered 14.74% YoY decline and 27.74% MoM growth.
At the end of this chart, we find Citroen products with a combined 175 units sold (96 Aircross SUV and 79 Basalt). The company doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, but down, in terms of sales. In total, compact SUV segment witnessed 42,458 units sold in December 2024. When compared to 42,640 units sold in December 2023 and 47,890 units sold in November 2024, there was a 0.43% YoY and 11.34% MoM decline, losing 182 units YoY and 5,432 units MoM in volume.
