Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara Lead Compact SUV Segment with Strong YoY Growth
The compact SUV segment in India continues to remain a popular choice among buyers, with models spanning the 4.2 to 4.4-meter length range driving significant demand. This was complemented by robust performance across the sub-4m SUV category as well. In November 2024, compact SUV sales reached an impressive 47,890 units, reflecting a healthy 6.45% YoY growth compared to 44,987 units sold in November 2023. This marked a volume increase of 2,903 units. However, MoM sales witnessed a sharp 17.20% decline from 57,837 units in October 2024, which had benefited from festive-season demand.
Compact SUV Sales Nov 2024
Several models in the compact SUV segment recorded notable YoY growth. However, MoM sales dipped sharply across most models, with the exception of XUV400 and Citroën C3 Aircross, which managed to buck the trend. The segment was dominated by Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara, both of which surpassed the 10,000-unit sales milestone. These two SUVs also reported a significant YoY increase in demand, solidifying their position as top choices in this competitive category.
Continuing its dominant stance in the Indian compact SUV segment was Hyundai Creta with 15,452 unit sales in the past month. This was a 30.79% YoY growth to command a 32.27% share on this list. There had been 11,814 units sold in Nov 2023. MoM sales however, dipped by 11.69% over 17,497 unit sales of Oct 2024. Maruti Grand Vitara also saw an increase in its YoY sales figures to 10,148 units, up by 27.86% over 7,937 units sold in Nov 2023. Sales fell sharply by 27.94% when compared to 14,083 units sold in Oct 2024. Grand Vitara currently commands a market share of 21.19%.
Facing both YoY and MoM de-growth was Kia Seltos. Sales fell to 5,364 units last month, a very substantial 54.09% decline from 11,684 units sold in Nov 2023. It also faced a MoM decline in demand by 15.73% from 6,365 units sold in Oct 2024. These declining sales could be on account of buyers awaiting next-gen Seltos set to make its presence felt later in 2025.
A relatively new comer to the segment, Tata Curvv/EV has found itself high up on sales charts at No. 4. Sales stood at 5,101 units in the past month to hold a 10.65% market share. Sales however, dipped by 4.67% from 5,351 unit sales of Oct 2024. Such is its demand that Curvv currently commands a long waiting period extending from 3-14 weeks depending on variant.
The highest YoY growth was recorded for Toyota HyRyder. Sales were up 61.63% to 4,857 units in the past month from 3,005 unit sales of Nov 2023. MoM sales suffered a setback by 10.86% when compared to 5,449 units sold in Oct 2024. Buyer sentiments were low in the case of Honda Elevate. This compact SUV has suffered a significant 64.92% YoY decline in demand to 1,668 units, down from 4,755 units sold in Nov 2023. Its MoM performance also lacked luster with a 22.38% decline over 2,149 unit sales in Oct 2024. Skoda Kushaq too suffered a YoY and MoM decline to 1,524 units while VW Taigun saw its sales at 1,497 units, again recording lower sales.
Mahindra XUV400 EV 40.85% YoY Sales Growth
Mahindra XUV400 EV saw improved demand in Nov 2024 to 1,000 units. This was a 40.85% YoY improvement from 710 units sold in Nov 2023. Its MoM sales however, remained flat with the same number of units sold in Oct 2024. The compact SUV sales list also had the MG Astor and MG ZS EV of which 548 units and 483 units were sold respectively. While MG Astor saw its YoY and MoM sales decline sharply, MG ZS EV recorded a 12.85% YoY improvement in sales from 428 units sold in Nov 2023. The list was trailed by Citroen C3 Aircross with 201 unit sales and Basalt of which only 47 units were sold last month.
