Prices of the latest Jeep SUV in India start at just Rs 14.95 lakh, which means the Compass ends up being at loggerheads with quite a few SUVs. Obviously, with a competitive pricing like that, comparisons were bound to rise. People are already busy comparing the Compass with everything from a Hyundai Creta to a Toyota Fortuner. Yes, many are actually interested to find out about the way the Creta and the Compass compare with each other. True, the Creta is from a segment lower, but the fact that the Compass offers so much for a little extra money makes everyone want to compare Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta. Taking note of this situation, here’s our Jeep Compass vs Hyundai Creta comparison for you.

<

The Hyundai Creta has been posting segment-leading sales figures since time immemorial now. Thanks to powerful engines, a modern design, a lot many features and the trust that Hyundai enjoys in India, the Creta seems to tick all the boxes in the lists of potential small SUV buyers. The Compass, which has already caught the attention of many, isn’t a direct rival of the Creta. Instead, it’s from a segment above. However, with so much going for the new Jeep SUV, some new SUV buyers are bound to end up investing more on Compass instead. This very thought is the reason behind this comparison of the Compass and the Creta.

Like you can see here, there is a vast difference in the prices of the two models. While prices of the Compass start at close to Rs 15 lakh rupees, the Creta can be yours for as little as Rs 8.92 lakh. Even the top-end model in the Creta lineup costs almost a lakh rupees lesser than the Compass. Moreover, let’s not forget that the fully loaded Creta comes with a Diesel engine and a lot many features. On the other hand, the entry-level Compass comes with a Petrol engine and lacks many features. The entry-level Compass Diesel costs almost a lakh rupees more than the Petrol model, which means, if you compare feature-to-feature, the top-end Creta comes across as a much more value-for-money offering at a much lower price. While it’s still not easy to pick up a clear winner here, the Creta needs to be with winner of this section of our Jeep Compass vs Hyundai Creta comparison.

Compare Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta Specs

[table id=193 /]

While the Jeep Compass offers a petrol and a diesel engine, the Creta offers a petrol and two diesel engines to choose from. Also, only the petrol model of the Compass offers an automatic transmission at the moment. In comparison, all the engine variants of Creta have an automatic transmission on offer. The Compass Diesel will launch with a 9-speed automatic at a later stage, but for now only a 6-speed manual gearbox is on offer. Coming to the comparison of power and other such parameters, the Compass stands out as the clear winner here. The Petrol engine of the Compass is significantly more powerful than its counterpart under the Creta’s hood. Both the Diesel engines of the Creta lack in terms of power and torque if you compare them with the Diesel engine offered on the Compass. There’s actually no way the Creta can be a match for the Compass here. So the premium you pay for the Compass is pretty much justified, at least in this aspect.

Jeep Compass vs Hyundai Creta Mileage Comparison

[table id=195 /]

The Creta is the clear winner here. Thanks to less powerful engines, the Creta ends up offering significantly higher average mileage than the new Jeep SUV. The Compass, on the other hand, offers more in performance terms and hence, loses out in this mileage comparison. If you compare Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta in terms of mileage alone, the Creta is the clear winner here. But one simply can’t ignore the fact that the Compass offers much more power than the Creta. Hence, its lower mileage figures are justified to a large extent. But for a typical mileage hungry buyer, the Creta does make more sense.

Jeep Compass vs Hyundai Creta Dimensions Comparison

[table id=194 /]

Like we’ve been saying, the Creta is from half a segment lower Hence, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see the Compass being the clear winner in this comparison. From length to width, from height to wheelbase, it’s larger than the Creta in every aspect.

Compare Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta – Exterior

The Compass really looks a lot more chic and modern than most other SUVs in this price bracket. It has got a compact yet a sufficiently muscular design. Basically, the Compass is one of those few vehicles that look both sophisticated and sufficiently rugged. There are many typical Jeep design cues, like the 7-slat front grille. At the first glance, the Compass looks like a baby Grand Cherokee, which isn’t at all a bad thing. In side profile, the SUV continues to look handsome due to the well pronounced wheel arches, stylish twin-spoke alloys (only on top-end models) and short overhangs. At the rear, the premium wraparound LED taillamps add to the sophistication of the design.

In comparison, the Creta makes an impact through the loudness and the flamboyance that’s typical of modern day Korean cars. While even the Creta enjoys a really bold stance, it somehow misses out on the touch of ruggedness that the Compass enjoys. In comparison to the squared-off wheel arches of the Compass, the more rounded treatment for the Creta make the car look sleek and not exactly rugged. Even the taillamps further make the car look really sleek and dynamic. While there’s nothing wrong with the way the Creta looks, it simply lacks the kind of sophistication and brawniness exhibited by the Compass.

Compare Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta – Interior

The interior of the Compass is a reflection of the exterior. It has neat, well defined surfaces with a design that has a touch of sophistication to it. The steering wheel, which seems to have come from the Renegade, looks nice and is good to hold. The centre stash is characterized by a 7-inch UConnect system. The highlight of this SUV’s features list is the Selec-Terrain drive select system, which occupies a prominent space ahead of the gear lever. Overall, the interior of the Compass looks modern and premium.
Even the Creta’s cabin is a nice place to be in. But if you compare Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta in this aspect, the Creta simply can’t match the sophistication that the new SUV has on offer. Don’t get us wrong though for we don’t say the Creta’s cabin isn’t up to the mark. It’s just that the Hyundai SUV here can’t match the premiumness on offer inside the Compass. And of course, the top-end Creta can’t match the top-end Compass in terms of features list, but then, it’s also almost Rs 6 lakh cheaper.

Verdict – Jeep Compass vs Hyundai Creta Comparison

Price– Let’s face it, the Compass shouldn’t be compared to the Creta if pricing is all you care about. The fully loaded variant of the Compass is still cheaper than the entry-level petrol model.

Specifications– Spec-to-spec, the Compass outclasses Creta totally. True, the new Jeep SUV doesn’t have an auto transmission for its Diesel engine variant, but it’s only a matter of time before Jeep India starts offering a 9-speed Automatic transmission on the Diesel model.

Mileage– The Creta offers much higher mileage figures, which, for many, is a big factor.

Dimensions– The Compass, being from half a segment higher, simply outclasses Creta in the size wars.

Design– Design is a matter of personal taste, but if you ask us, the Creta simply can’t beat the sophistication and also the boldness of the Compass.

Conclusion– It’s basically a no-brainer for all of you who are on a tight budget. But for those of you who can spend a few lakhs more, the Compass does have a lot more to offer than the Creta.
