Hero Motocorp signs CS Santhosh for new rally team; Dakar 2017 in sight

The team will make its debut on May 21 in Morocco.

Hero Motocorp and German off-roading racing specialist Speedbrain GmBH has formed a partnership to venture into the world of motorcycle rallying. The entities have formed Hero Motorsport Team Rally which will make its debut at theĀ Merzouga Rally (a Dakar series race) in Morocco later this month.

The newly formed motorcycle rally team has signed up India’s ace off-road rider C S Santhosh, and Portuguese rider Joaquim Rodrigues who is a rookie in rally arena (but has experience in Motocross and Supercross categories). The racing team will be headed by Wolfgang Fischer, Managing Director, Speedbrain.

The team will participate in several global rallies leading up to the Dakar 2017.

Dr. Markus Braunsperger, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Hero MotoCorp, will be directly supervising the development of the racing machines. In collaboration with the newly inaugurated Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology, the motorsport team will assist the two-wheeler maker in development and testing of new Hero concepts.

CS Santhosh will be spearheading the new racing team’s campaign in several global rallies, leading up to the Dakar 2017. The team will be riding an upgraded Speedbrain 450 rally bike in new Hero livery.

The motorsport team will work with the two-wheeler maker’s R&D centre to develop and test concept motorcycles.
