Daimler AG moovel mobility platform for user friendly travel options on mobile phones: Only Stuttgart pilot
“Moovel” is an app which will be available for all current mobile phones starting from July 11, 2012. This application is the brain child of Daimler AG who has launched this project in Stuttgart. Through this app mobile users will be instructed on an optimal way of traveling from Point A to Point B. The application is free and is available at all Apple Stores.
Through this app, users will be instructed on information and prices, travel time and simpler and more convenient ways of travelling. The app shows various bus and train options and connections in the VVS service area. In addition it is also possible to search for ride sharing opportunities and enter ride offers through this app. Taxi cab call function will help in the ordering of a taxi by phone.
Once this proves successful, the company is planning a second project in Berlin which will be launched by end of 2012. Moovel integrates various mobility service providers and is open to all providers of urban mobility.
News release: The best way to get from A to B: “moovel” offers integrated mobility for one and all
Daimler AG treads new paths with a unique service: the mobility platform “moovel” shows its users the best possible way to get from A to B. “moovel” bundles the offers of diverse mobility providers and presents suitable travel options via app and mobile website – irrespective of provider and transparently. As of 11 July 2012 the free “moovel” app will be available in the Apple Store. “moovel” will start off as a pilot project in Stuttgart. Offers from mitfahrgelegenheit.de, SSB and VVS are integrated in the initial version. A second pilot project is planned for the second half of 2012 in Berlin.
In July 2012 Daimler AG is launching the mobility platform “moovel” as a pilot project in Stuttgart. “moovel” shows users the optimal means of getting from A to B: “moovel” brings together entirely different means of travel and presents the options so that they can be seen at a glance – transparently, in a user-friendly way and on an equal footing. The recommendations are based on the offers of the mobility service providers.
The travel options are displayed on the “moovel” app or mobile website
( www.moovel.com ). Along with provider-independent information about prices and traveling time, “moovel” features a simple and intuitive user guidance program. The free app is available in the Apple Store starting on 11 July 2012. In addition, via the mobile website “moovel” can be used on many current smartphones.
“With the ‘moovel’ pilot project in Stuttgart we focus entirely on the intelligent linkage of different mobility offerings. We show users the best way to get from A to B. And at the same time existing resources can be better utilized”, says Wilfried Steffen, head of Business Innovation at Daimler AG. Andreas Mink, project manager for “moovel” at Business Innovation, adds: “In the pilot project we intend to selectively involve the users in the further development of the platform, learn from experience, and so make “moovel” more attractive with every update.”
“moovel” launch version with mitfahrgelegenheit.de, SSB and VVS
At the start of the pilot test in Stuttgart, the offers of the local partners Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG (SSB) and Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart, VVS (Transit and Tariff Association Stuttgart) as well as from the ride-sharing agency mitfahrgelegenheit.de are integrated. In the app the various options for bus and rail connections in the VVS service area are shown, including travel time and price. In addition, it is possible to search for convenient ride-sharing opportunities and to enter ride offers. A taxicab call function, with the aid of which the user can order a taxi by phone from the app, completes the first version of “moovel”.
Daimler gained valuable experience in the ride-sharing market with the ad hoc ride-sharing system car2gether in two pilot tests in Ulm and Aachen. Moreover, in Ulm the linking of car2gether with car2go was tested; in Aachen, the connection with the public transit operator Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV).
The cooperation with mitfahrgelegenheit.de and its integration in “moovel” make it possible to put the basic idea of car2gether on a much broader basis and raise the networking of urban mobility to a new level.
Intelligent linkage of private transportation and public transit
The linkage of different mobility options makes it possible to intelligently combine motorized private transportation with public transit and to make a contribution to the more efficient utilization of existing resources. The starter version will be continuously supplemented by the offers of further mobility service providers – for instance in the second half of 2012 by the offers of car2go. For the second half of 2012 another “moovel” pilot project is planned in Berlin. “moovel” integrates the offers of various mobility service providers and is basically open to all providers of urban mobility. The involvement of many partners is a central element. That is true within Daimler AG too – for the development of “moovel”, competencies from the corporate units IT, Financial Services and Strategy were brought together under the moderation of the Business Innovation unit, the Daimler Lab for innovative business models.
