In India, Daimler Trucks (DICV) sold 12,500 vehicles up 29 percent (PY 9,700). To date, 30,000 BharatBenz trucks have been delivered to Indian customers with sales having started back in September 2012. New launches have augmented BharatBenz’ position in the upper medium- and heavy-duty truck segment with an increased market share of 7.1 percent (PY 5.9).
Launch of heavy-duty BharatBenz 3143 in 2015 has played an important role. The vehicle caters to mining, and on construction sites. Made in India vehicles are positioned to play a vital role in opening up important growth markets in Asia, and Africa.
Through 2015, Daimler Trucks started exports to over a dozen additional markets from Chennai plant. Currently, Chennai plant exports commercial vehicles to over 20 international markets. In 2016, Daimler Trucks looks to enter additional markets with FUSO trucks specially adapted to needs in new export markets.
For 2015, Daimler trucks reports global sales of over 500,000 units (PY 495,700 vehicles). Sales performance in some Asian markets stands improved. In Japan, FUSO sales stood at 41,600 vehicles,up 4 percent (PY 39,000). Truck market share in Japan stands at 20.7 percent (PY 20.3). In Indonesia sales was down to 29,400 units (PY 51,400). With overall sales in the market being low, Daimler Trucks was able to report improved market share to 48.2 percent (PY 47.2) despite lower yearly sales here.
