Dangal actress Zaira Wasim’s Mahindra Scorpio crashes into Dal Lake
The driver lost control and Zaira and her friends had to be rescued by locals in the area.
Zaira Wasim, 16, who starred in Aamir Khan’s Dangal was involved in an accident on June 9th. She was travelling in a Mahindra Scorpio along with her friends. It was at the Boulevard Road bordering Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir that the driver lost control of his vehicle, jumped the pavement, crashed into the parapet wall of the Dal Lake and went head-on into the water.
Zaira and her friends were rescued by locals who witnessed the accident and confirm that the driver was driving well over the permitted speed limit at the time of the mishap. While the occupants were safe, the Scorpio had to be fished out from the lake later on.
Over speeding and subsequently loss of control over the vehicle have time and again been the causes of many accidents, some of which have been fatal. Zaira and her friends were lucky in this case that there was no serious injury and they could be rescued in double quick time. Imagine the effects if there were no bystanders or if the waters were deeper?
Indian roads are not built for speed, especially the one’s in hilly regions. They cannot guarantee safety at higher speeds than prescribed and hence drivers have been told to stay within speed limits for their own safety and for that of others on the road.
Especially in the case of the Mahindra Scorpio, speed limit should be maintained as the car is top heavy and loss of control is a common phenomenon at higher speeds. Regaining control is also difficult in the case of the Scorpio where a higher center of gravity and increased weight make it all the more difficult.
