Datsun teases a mystery concept for Tokyo; Is it the pre-production redi-Go?

New Datsun Concept (Datsun redi-Go second version) teaser

Datsun will launch its new entry level CMF-A platform-based small car in India next year.

Datsun has released a teaser image of what appears to be a pre-production concept but has not divulged any additional information yet. From the looks of it, we suspect it to be a second preview of the redi-Go, this time closer to production than before. It could also be a soft crossover version of the Go hatcback.

Datsun is gearing up to launch the redi-Go based production car sometime in the first half of 2015. The hatchback would be deriving its design from the concept which made its world premiere at the Auto Expo 2014. The teaser shows a stylish LED infused headlamp, a circular foglamp (also LED), signature hexagonal chrome grille and a tautly skinned bonnet.

The new Datsun concept could be an advanced version of the redi-Go concept which was showcased at Auto Expo 2014.

The Datsun redi-Go will share its CMF-A modular budget car platform with the newly launched Renault Kwid. The lightweight platform was primarily developed in India and is localized heavily. Just like Kwid, one can expect a highly competitive pricing for the Datsun’s entry level hatchback. Power will come from the same 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque.

Going by the previous concept car, redi-Go’s design lines will portray it as a micro crossover rather than a small hatchback. While the Kwid has a imposing stance, its Datsun counter part is expected to opt for a more athletic character with sharper lines and more pronounced sheet metal surfaces.

We will know more details about the new Datsun concept car towards the end of this month.
