Datsun Go T (O) and Datsun Go Plus T (O) are priced at INR 4.19 lakhs and INR 4.81 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. This is INR 15,000 dearer than the current top of the line T variant; but considerably increases Datsun Go safety featyres. Save for the airbag, the equipment level stays intact. In order to achieve a very aggressive price tag, Nissan’s sub brand has bestowed its compact people carrier only with bare essentials. Both Datsun cars were under fire from Global NCAP when they failed the crash test miserably
Go Plus is essentially a stretched version of Go hatchback with an additional row of seats. With no real direct competition, the low-cost MPV has been doing good to steadily uplift the brand’s monthly sales in India since its launch.
Both cars are underpinned by Nissan’s V-platform (Versatile) which also caters to Micra, Sunny and their respective Renault twins. Power comes from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder 12-valve petrol engine which is good for 68 PS. Mated to a 5-speed transmission, the 7-seater returns an impressive ARAI rated fuel economy of 20.6 kmpl.
The addition of driver side airbag at a nominal price should go well with safety conscious customers. Offering optional ABS (reportedly in the works) would also go a long way in earning customers’ trust.Datsun Go Plus T (O) adds driver air bag for a reasonable price of INR 15,000.
Meanwhile, Datsun is working on to launch third and most affordable model in India next year. Based on the redi-Go concept previewed at Auto Expo 2015, the new A-segment hatchback will be closely related to and will bring a crossover appeal to the INR 3-4 lakh segment.
