Even though the official order books for the Datsun redi-Go is not supposed to open until next month, certain dealers have already started accepting bookings to capitalize on the excitement around the newly unveiled product. Business-Standard reports that bookings from Mumbai alone have surpassed 150 units in four days, and that too without a single display car.
The booking amount is reported to be INR 11,000. Like its platform mate Renault Kwid, the redi-Go will also go on sale with a mouth watering introductory price range. Given Datsun’s market positioning below Renault, we can expect the tall boy to undercut its SUV-ish sibling to some extent.
The Maruti Alto slayer will be launched in the first week of June and will be manufactured alongside the Kwid at the Alliance’s Oragadam factory. The CMF-A platform-based small car will enjoy the cost structure of local development and heavy localization.
The redi-Go is powered by the same 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which also drives the Kwid. Datsun has not revealed the output figures yet but as confirmed that the redi-Go will offer best-in-class fuel economy. On board the French hatchback, the motor delivers 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque. It is good enough for an ARAI certified mileage of 25.17 kmpl.
