Speaking on the sidelines of one millionth car roll out at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Oragadam near Chennai, Nissan India officials have revealed that the company is gearing up to launch two new products in India – one Datsun and one Nissan – in this calendar year.
The Datsun Redi-Go, third product from Nissan’s budget brand, would be launched in the third quarter of this calendar year. Without divulging the details, Guillaume Sicard, President of Nissan India Operations, revealed that Nissan will announce its new launch at the Auto Expo 2016 in the first week of February. It is most likely to be the X-Trail premium 7-seat crossover.
In addition to launching new products under both Datsun and Nissan brands, the automaker will also work towards increasing its dealership network across the country to 300 outlets by the end of 2016. The objective is to achieve its initial target of 5% market share. As of now, Nissan’s market share in India stands at around 1.5%.
The Datsun Redi-Go will be the second product to be based on the locally developed CMF-A platform, the first one being the highly successful Renault Kwid which has crossed 85,000 bookings. Coming to the new Nissan X-Trail, an earlier reports suggests that the SUV would be available as a petrol hybrid CBU product.
