The Datsun redi-Go which made its world debut in Delhi earlier today is set to reach the customers in the first week of June. Unveiling the car, Datsun’s top officials announced that bookings for the small car will commence on 1st of May.
The CMF-A platform-based redi-Go managed to cling on to the concept’s energetic design lines and expressive surfaces. The tall boy design eases up an impressive vertical space inside the cabin. Datsun likes to call its most affordable car in the global portfolio as an ‘urban cross’.
Datsun’s designers have come up with a unique, simple and ergonomic dashboard which hosts an angular centre console with a triangular vent, music system and AC controls. The sporty looking steering wheel with an oversized steering boss is also all-new. Grey is the primary color inside the cabin. To arrive at an aggressive price point, we expect the redi-Go’s base variant to make do without body colored bumpers, hubcaps, LED DRLs, power window, power steering, etc., but the top-end variant packs all these features in addition to a driver airbag.
The Datsun redi-Go will make of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine that also powers the Kwid. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the motor belts out 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque.
Being a budget brand, it’s imperative for Datsun to position the redi-Go below the Kwid but given that latter itself is very aggressively priced, it would be a huge challenge. We expect the prices to start at around INR 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
