Datsun Redi-Go small SUV to launch in May 2016

Datsun Redi-Go small SUV was showcased as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. It was believed that the production ready Redi-Go will be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. But that has not been the case. Instead, Datsun showcased a Go Rally Concept ant the Go-Cross Crossover Concept. So what happened to Redi-Go, a car which they have been testing around Chennai for the last few months?

Well, it is on its way. A new report confirms that the launch of new Datsun Red-Go small SUV will take place in India later this year. To be precise, it will be in the second half of May 2016.
So why was it not showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo? Well Nissan India have no solid answer for that, but as per a source close to the development of the Redi-Go, the team did not want it to be showcased on the same platform as the Kwid 1.0 liter, Kiwd ClimbeR and RaceR concepts.

Codenamed I2 as on date, Datsun Redi-Go will be the third model launched under the brand after Go and Go+. Based on the same platform as the Renault Kwid (CMF-A), the Datsun Redi-Go is expected to be powered by the same engine as seen on the Datsun Go and Go+. This is a 1.2 liter petrol engine offering 68 PS power while the company pegs fuel efficiency at 20.63 kmpl.

Where safety features on Datsun Redi-Go are concerned, the company has paid special attention to safety which may even be better than that offered on the Kwid, especially considering that the Datsun GO was red flagged by Global NCAP.

Once launched, Datsun Redi-Go will be the company’s smallest SUV on offer in India. On price point, it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Swift while direct rival could be the new Mahindra KUV100 and upcoming Maruti Ignis.
