Launched in June 2016, Datsun Redi-Go is the cheapest car on offer in India after the Tata Nano. As expected, the car soon became Nissan India’s best-selling car in the country, helping the brand register increase in sales for the first time in almost two years.
Riding on the wave, Nissan India soon announced the launch of Redi-Go Sport. This was done towards the end of September 2016, just ahead of the festive season. Being a limited edition, a total of 1,000 units of the car were to be sold.
Nissan India has now announced that all 1,000 units of Datsun Redi-Go have already been sold. In order to not disappoint their customers, Nissan will now increase production of Redi-Go Sport by 800 units.
Based on the Renault-Nissan alliance CMF-A platform, Datsun Redi-Go is the third and smallest Datsun car on offer. Sharing components with the hugely successful Renault Kwid, Nissan expected Redi-Go to have a similar impact on the consumers in India. But that has not been the case yet.
Priced lower than the Renault Kwid, Datsun Redi-Go comes with a sporty styling. Datsun says that this is their Urban Cross, built to take on commuting challenges in Indian cities.
It is powered by the same 0.8 liter petrol three cylinder engine which is also powering the Kwid. This engine delivers 54 PS @ 5678 rpm and 72 Nm @ 4386 rpm. Transmission is taken care by a 5 speed manual gearbox and mileage claimed stands at 25.17 kmpl.
Apart from Kwid, Datsun Redi-Go also competes with the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon.
