With two affordable cars in the company lineup that include Datsun GO hatchback and GO+ MPV, Datsun India gears up for the launch of the new Datsun redi-GO which will be priced even more aggressively.
Set to take on Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, the new Datsun redi-GO was showcased at 2014 Auto Expo in concept format. Based on the same CMF-A platform, as seen on Renault Kwid, the new Datsun redi-GO is expected measure 3.5 meters in length. It will sport a new front fascia with a hexagonal grille, swooping headlights and steel wheels.
While interior details will also follow a new format (as compared to other Datsun on offer today), it is to be seen whether the same interiors showcased on the concept will be making their way onto the production model. However, more interior space and a larger boot area are expected.
Engine option on offer could be the same as that of Kwid, in the form of 800cc petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, offering peak power output of 54PS at 5,768 rpm and peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386 rpm.
The company could also introduce a 1.0 liter AMT petrol and a new 1.0-liter diesel variant sometime later. With Datsun Redi-GO to be positioned below Renault Kwid hatchback which is priced at INR 2.60 lakh, pricing could start INR 2.3-2.5 lakh.
