During an exclusive interaction with Rushlane, Bonito Chhabria, Director, DC Design, revealed that the DC Tia small car concept which was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo will enter production in the next 12 months as a pure electric coupe. The unorthodox open top urban coupe would be produced only in limited numbers.
The concept car is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Euro-5 petrol engine which puts out an impressive 120 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The mid-engined small car concept employs a 4-speed automatic gearbox to propel the rear wheels. Details of the production-spec electric powertrain are under wraps as of now, but the layout would be retained.
The high-riding Tia has an extremely compact footprint, making it a purposeful city car. It measures just 2,550 mm in length, 1,688 mm in width, 1,406 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,620 mm. Thanks to the 18-inch alloy wheels, the ground clearance stands at 200 mm.
Underpinned by a spaceframe with integrated roll cage, the DC small car will sport carbon fibre composite body panels complete with a targa roof. A tapered front fascia with LED infused headlamp clusters, a tall stance and an interesting rear fascia constituted by wraparound taillights, massive black bumper and a generously proportioned windshield makes the Tia a life-size toy rather than a volume oriented small car.
Being a pure electric vehicle, production version of the DC Tia would leverage the significant tax benefits and subsidies announced by the government of India under NEMMP 2020. Given its exclusivity, the car would be marketed as collectible rather than a new-age urban commuter.
