DC Design will be showcasing two new products at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo in February 2014. First will be a four seater convertible SUV, while the other is a small car, which will be smaller than Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car.
Both these cars will be built for a niche market, a segment which is yet to be explored by existing car makers in India. The SUV is expected to be in the form of their Tornado Concept SUV, which was showcased last year. The smaller car, will be about 7 feet in length and will accommodate two people. Price of these cars will range in the Rs 18-40 lakh segment.
Apart from this, DC Design is also setting up a new plant in Sanand, Gujarat at an investment of INR 60 crores from where their own range of cars will be produced. Their exisiting plant in Talegaon near Pune, has the capacity to produce 1,000 cars per month. The production of the two new DC cars will take a couple of years to commence. The first to roll out, will be the Avanti sports car, which was first showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2012.
Avanti will initially carry a price tag of around Rs 25 lakhs, as promised. This first Indian supercar will receive a 2 liter Ford EcoBoost engine offering a total of 240 bhp power while being mated to a 6 speed manual unit. This Avanti, weighing 1,562 kgs, will be able to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in under 7 seconds.
The first batch of 25 Avanti’s will be delivered by February 2014. After this, a price hike will be implied, of about Rs 5 lakh. 100 units of the Avanti per month will be produced from the company plant in Talegaon near Pune from June 2014. (source)
