Hauled by a powerful electric engine WAP 5 generating 5500hp, the new Gatimaan Express is India’s first semi high-speed train.
Flagged off by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on today morning, the new Gatimaan Express will ply between Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin station and Agra Cantonment station. It will travel at a speed of 160 kmph and will run on 6 days of the week with the exception of Fridays.
The train will depart from Nizamuddin station at 8.10 am and will arrive at Agra station at 9.50 am. From Agra, the train will depart at 5.50 pm and arrive at Nizamuddin station at 7.30pm which means that a tourist can visit the Tag Mahal and Agra Fort in a day trip.
Gatimaan Express is a part of the agenda emphasized by Railway Minister in the Union Budget. Special emphasis is being paid to increased speed for both passenger and goods trains. Gatimaan Express receives special comforts, train hostesses and improved catering services with various kinds of cuisines which are being carried out by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation.
Comprising of 2 executive AC chair cars and 8 AC chair car coaches, the fares per seat are INR 1,500 and INR 750 respectively. No concessions are admissible in this train. Other onboard comforts also include free on board entertainment by a private provider.
