Delhi Auto Expo enters fourth day, no sign of respite for auto enthusiasts

Delhi Auto Expo organizers are facing a tough time managing visitors at the show. Lack of proper arrangement has made it difficult for auto enthusiasts to even have a proper look at any of the cars or bikes on display at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. First two days of the Delhi Auto Expo, 5-6 Jan, were reserved for media and VIP’s, but even on those days it was not possible to click an image without having someone or the other in your frame.

Heads of various vehicle manufacturing companies who were present at the Auto Expo on the 5th January to launch/unveil their new products, were shocked to see the level of arrangement. Organizers of the Auto Show have reportedly given away a lot of free passes which has turned the Auto Show into a nightmare for media and auto enthusiasts.

Mr Abhay Firodia, Chairman, Man Force Trucks, said, “I am very disappointed at how it (Auto Expo) is being managed. The space is awful, the cleanliness standards are terrible. This is an international show not a ‘tamasha’ or an entertainment where families and kids can just walk in and think of having fun.”

Mr Itaru Kado, Board Member, Takata India said, “Compared to other international auto shows, here we have found that the area is not so clean. There are garbages all around and toilets are also not clean. In other expos, like Tokyo, Frankfurt or Chicago, these things are maintained very properly.”

Mr Anand Mahindra, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “This is not Auto Expo, this is Kumbh Mela. CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) needs to be jolted out of this. This is organizational failure.” Similarly, a lot people have had a similar opinion about the Delhi Auto Expo.

Mr Sanjay Tripathi, Marketing, Director, Harley Davidson India, said, “The Auto Expo is no longer India specific. It has a global audience. If we are claiming this to be the second largest in Asia, then we need to set our standards to that level. When our foreign visitors come here, we expect them to take the image of India from the event with them.”
