Driver’s distractions on the road are a major cause for concern. It is the main cause of a majority of accidents and Drive Master is devised to denote how concentration can make a major difference to both driver and pedestrian. The use of smart phones for all sorts of activities while on the move needs to be curtailed and hence the Drive Master app game is specially designed to bring to the fore distractions during driving.

Web cam and advanced eye and head tracking technology is used to note driver’s concentration levels and even the slightest dip in concentration level is recorded causing the car to run off the track. The user much be able to concentrate 100% on his driving to post best lap time and contend with Nico Rosberg in the other vehicle and at the end of the test of concentration the driver is intimated as to how many times he has failed to concentrate or how many times his mind wandered. Top scorers are rewarded with additional lap time.

News release: Drive Master app for Facebook from Allianz road safety campaign: ALLIANZ LAUNCHES DRIVE MASTER™ FOR FACEBOOK, FEATURING NICO ROSBERG

• Users race against a fast lap set by Nico
• Cutting-edge eye and head-tracking technology measures driver concentration level
• App to help communicate the Allianz road safety campaign to a worldwide audience online

Our team partner Allianz has just launched a groundbreaking app for Facebook called Drive Master. Inspired by recent Allianz research into driver distraction, the app is supported by the team and Nico, and will be used to help communicate the global Allianz ‘Drive Safely’ campaign.

The Drive Master app is designed to emulate the increasing distractions in modern day driving. Using a web-cam and advanced eye and head-tracking technology, it measures the concentration level of the user. Whilst racing Nico’s ghost car around the track, the user’s own social media posts, plus text messages, phone calls and Facebook messages from Nico himself all appear to distract the user.

The technology resisters even the slightest slip in concentration and this can result in the car running off-course. The user must avoid being distracted to post the best lap time and beat Nico. At the end, they are told how many times they were distracted and how. As an incentive, users that register no loss of concentration at all are awarded bonus time off their lap.

“Road safety is a major global issue. Worldwide an estimated 1.2 million people are killed each year and as many as 50 million are injured. Formula OneTM requires intense concentration and the idea behind Drive Master is to demonstrate how concentration can make a major difference to safety whatever car you drive,” said Christian Deuringer, Head of Global Brand Management, Allianz SE.

The Allianz ‘Drive Safely’ campaign for road safety continues to grow globally, with more than 20 Allianz markets using F1™ assets to create road safety events and activities for fans. For Allianz, one of the world’s leading financial service providers, the 2012 theme – ‘Safety starts in your head’ – is an evolution of a long-standing commitment to road safety, and a 12-year partnership with F1™. Away from the track, Allianz works with the FIA to support the UN “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020” and is the only insurer with its own research institute, the Allianz Center for Technology (AZT).
