Drives and rides pan India this September
Last weekend, Land Rover Experience was held at Chennai. Mercedes-Benz had its Stardrive scheduled in Jaipur this month. Audi sportscar experience in September saw fans and member head to Buddh International Circuit to test the motorsport spirit of Audi by riding the TT, S6, S4, A6 and R8.
Yesterday, Bike Festival of India – National Safety Ride entered its final leg covering 5500 kms and 20 Indian cities along the way. The longest Safety Ride in India, BFI ‘National Safety Ride’ was flagged off by cricketer Ishant Sharma in New Delhi on August 31, 2014. Bikers have journeyed across Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vapi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Ooty, Kochi,Chennai, Rajamudry, Behrampur and Bhadrak thus far.
Riders stopped in cities for sightseeing, and met with biker communities to encourage safe biking, responsible riding, especially wearing helmets. From Kolkata, riders will head to Dhanbad, Varanasi, Kanpur, Noida, Chandigarh and back to Delhi on 29th September ending the month long National Safety Ride, which at that time will have traversed a distance of 8170 kms. Triumph Motorcycles is the official bike partner of BFI National Safety Ride.
Bike Festival of India is scheduled on 4th and 5th October at Buddh International Circuit (BIC), Greater Noida. Tickets are available at bookmyshow. MS Dhoni,?is the face of the Bike Festival of India.The cricketers Hellcat and a range of other super bikes will be showcased to bike enthusiasts and Dhoni fans at the Festival.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) recently provided its privileged Purple Club members an experience at Madras Motor Race Track, Chennai at the 3rd edition of Purple Club Torque Day. The experiential drive saw more than 150 participants with 51 XUV500’s and Rexton’s taking to track in celebrating thrill and performance of the premium Mahindra SUVs that participated.
Conceived by Mahindra, the day provides a unique motorsports experience to club members. Participants also partook in fast flying laps with Amittrajit Ghosh, the reigning Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) winner, and his co-driver, Ashwin Naik.

With the 3rd edition of India Bike Week announced for 2015, Mumbai edition of Chai and Pakoda ride last weekend saw over 500 bikers and pillion riders meet at 7 am on Sunday morning to be a part the biker brotherhood that is the bikers of India. The ride was organised in association with Social Media Week beginning at a Mumbai suburb and moving onto Parsi Da Dhaba on NH-8 about 150 kms from Mumbai.
Chai and Pakoda rides are aimed to get bikers together which welcomes all makes from Pulsars, Harley-Davidson’s, KTM’s, Triumphs to superbikes. Martin da Costa, CEO of 70 EMG spoke highly of Mumbai biking community. Dozens of Biker Clubs were represented with everyone joining in for Parsi breakfast of Kheema Pao, Chicken Cutlets and Acuri. BMW Experience Tour 2014 recently headed to Hyderabad, an event planned across 12 cities across India showcased the brand’s entire luxury lineup to participants. The camp in Hyderabad is the 8th of 12 cities and was set up at GMR Arena, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamsabad. Other cities where to host the camp are Jaipur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Bangalore, Lucknow and Kolkata so customers in these markets have an opportunity to experience the brand, test drive vehicles and interact with product experts. Hyderabad is now ready to welcome Harley-Davidson owners and their families from 26th – 28th September, 2014 for the 3rd edition of Southern H.O.G. Rally will see over 600 riders from all 13 Indian chapters will get together. Harley-Davidson India’s zonal rallies are mini bike festivals with Harley-Davidson style activities. The zonal rally is also the first opportunity to welcome new Harley-Davidson Street 750 owners to the brotherhood.
Shiva Swamynath, Director Coromandel Chapter, Chennai said in 2013, more than 350 riders joined in for festivities at Mahaballipuram. This year the baton has been passed onto Banjara Chapter, Hyderabad.
Earlier in the month, 4 riders from Pune began a country wide ride to all 13 HOG chapters in India. Beginning in Pune, they rode to Seven Islands Chapter in Mumbai and then on to Indore Tiger Chapter before riding north apart from heading to other destinations. Over 13 days, all 4 riders will collectively cover more than 40,000 kilometers. the ride culminates at the 3rd edition of Southern H.O.G. Rally.
Maruti Suzuki too flagged off an all women car rally in New Delhi in early Sept. The one-day event in the Capital saw 80 Maruti Suzuki cars entered to participate. Manohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki spoke of the company’s association with motorsports for over 2 decades. The TSD rally is a test of driving as well as planning skills alongwith encouraging road discipline and promoting road safety. Participants traversed 103-kilometres in and around New Delhi and concluded at starting point, Maruti Suzuki Vasant Kunj office.
A road book with instructions was provided, and navigators had to calculate Time based on Speed and Distance figures given in the road book, and advice the driver at which speed the car is to be driven (Time = Distance/Speed). Vaneeta Kumar in Maruti Suzuki Alto (with co-driver Komal Soni) won.
