Driving the Audi A7 3.0 TDI Sportback

From the outside, the car looks big, but the from the inside, it looks even bigger. The first thing that strikes you on entering the Audi A7 Sportback is the ample space both in front and passenger section. This elegant five door model has all the comforts of a sedan while displaying functionality of a station wagon. It has a lightweight structure thanks to its large number of aluminum components.

Audi A7 is spacious to say the least. It is just less than five meters in length, two meters in width and has enhanced space as compared to the A6 but a wee bit smaller than the A8. Where its engine is concerned, Audi A7 possesses a 3.0 V6 diesel engine with their state of the art S Tronic automatic transmission and Quattro all wheel drive. Maximum power is at 246 PS at 3650 to 4500 rpm while maximum torque is at 500 Nm at 1250 to 3500 rpm.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is accomplished in 6.6 seconds while 0 to 200 kmph is possible in less than 60 seconds, while this entire time engine remains smooth and refined. If your eyes are closed, you wont be able to tell the difference whether you are travelling at 50 kmph or 250 kmph, which is its electronically limited top speed.

Boot space is roomy at 535 liters and can be enhanced if rear seats are folded, allowing two people to sleep comfortably in the 1,390 liters of space. Audi A7 measures 4969 mm in length, 1911 mm in width and stands 1420 mm tall with a wheel base of 2914 mm. Audi A7 weighs 1770 kgs and has a 54:46 front and rear weight distribution.

Engine oil capacity is at 8 liters and fuel tank capacity is of 65 liters. As per Audi, A7 Sportback offers a mileage of 13.88 kmpl in the city, 18.86 kmpl on the highway and  a combined mileage of 16.67 kmpl. While on test, for a period of three days and over 700 kms of driving on various terrains, Audi A7 offered a mileage of 12 kmpl.

The Audi A7 has a host of gadgets and features which includes adaptive air suspension, two zone climate control, start/stop system, multi media interface, parking assist with reverse camera,18” alloy wheels, 255/45 – R 18 tyres, 8” screen with MMI touch operating system and optional head-up display. For your entertainment, Audi A7 offers state of the art music system from either Bose or Bang and Olufsen, which comes with 15 speakers providing 1300 watts power. If in need of more features a special Audi drive select system allows buyers to add on features as per their own preferences.

Speeding down the highway one will experience enhanced grip and superb body control and the Audi A7 is even fun to ride on twisting roads. Within city limits one experiences the paramount engine responsiveness, finest steering controls and improved braking all available within the Audi A7.
