Ford EcoSport comes in with a distinctive EcoBoost badge prominently displayed on its right hand side. It is for the first time that Indian auto enthusiasts will see an SUV with a 1000 cc engine.
Though diminutive in size, the same cannot be said about performance. This tiny engine has won an award for being ‘Engine of the Year’ in 2012 besides 16 other world records when it was displayed at various auto shows across the global, literally packed in a suitcase. The EcoSport will be offered in a choice of two petrol options, a 1.5 liter from Fiesta and a 1.0 EcoBoost. Its diesel counterparts will be in the form of a 1.5 liter, also seen on the Fiesta. A dual clutch automatic transmission will be available with the 1.5 liter petrol motor while diesel variant will arrive later in the market.
This second generation EcoSport has also been announced for European markets. Ford India will be confirming its export plans in due course where the EcoSport will compete with Peugeot 2008, Renault Duster, Renault Captur, Nissan Resonance, Honda Jazz based Urban SUV and Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV based on the Up! platform. Wheelomania reports that the bookings for Ford EcoSport have begun at Ford India dealerships.
