India’s electric two-wheeler market closed CY 2025 on a positive note, recording total retail sales of 12.8 lakh units, up from 11.49 lakh units in CY 2024, translating into a year-on-year growth of 11.36%. While overall growth remained in double digits, the year clearly highlighted a shift in momentum, with legacy OEMs strengthening their hold and several newer players scaling up rapidly, even as some early market leaders saw sharp corrections.

TVS Motor Company emerged as the largest electric two-wheeler seller in 2025, retailing 2,98,881 units, a strong growth of 35.35% YoY over 2024. Close behind was Bajaj Auto, which continued its steady climb with 2,69,847 units, registering a 39.34% YoY increase. Together, TVS and Bajaj accounted for a significant share of total EV two-wheeler sales, underlining the growing preference for established brands with wider service networks and proven products.

Ola Electric Sees Sharp Decline

Ather Energy delivered one of its best years yet, selling 2,00,797 units, up 58.91% YoY, driven by strong demand for its 450 and Rizta range. In contrast, Ola Electric witnessed a sharp correction in volumes. Sales dropped to 1,99,318 units in 2025 from 4,07,700 units in 2024, marking a steep 51.11% decline, reflecting intensified competition and changing consumer preferences.

Hero MotoCorp, led by its Vida electric scooter range, posted the fastest growth among large OEMs. With 1,09,168 units sold, Hero recorded an impressive 149.74% YoY growth, signaling strong traction as it scales up its EV portfolio. Greaves Electric Mobility (Ampere) also performed well, clocking 56,486 units, a 61.11% YoY increase, while BGAUSS and Pure EV reported steady and sharp growth respectively, indicating rising acceptance in regional and value-focused markets.

Smaller but fast-growing brands also made notable gains. River, though operating at lower volumes, posted a remarkable 506.8% YoY growth with 15,261 units, reflecting growing interest in premium, design-led electric scooters. Kinetic Green maintained moderate growth with 12,610 units, while the collective ‘Others’ category saw a marginal decline, highlighting consolidation within the segment.

Legacy OEMs Strengthen Hold

Overall, CY 2025 proved to be a year of recalibration for India’s electric two-wheeler market. Growth continued, but leadership clearly shifted towards traditional OEMs and brands offering strong product reliability, service reach and value. With multiple new launches and capacity expansions planned, 2026 is expected to be a more competitive and mature phase for the electric two-wheeler ecosystem in India.
