Electric vehicle charging made simpler as GE teams up with PayPal: WattStation Connect software platform
GE Energy Industrial Solutions unveiled its new WattStation Connect software platform at the SAE 2012 world congress. This eco friendly app spent two years under trial and testing and will soon be made available to the public across Android and iOS platforms. This software is also available online and will help educate both users and service station attendants.
Using WattStation Connect software platform drivers can charge up their vehicles without any hassle. In accordance with the agreement signed between industrial solutions and PayPal costumers will be able to pay for these services over a safe and secure medium. Apart from this Apple users can use the app to pinpoint locations of the nearest charging station within a particular radius, check for rates and even get information telling them whether the pump is in use or not. Users will also be able to reserve these stations and find directions to them by making use of the app.
This app allowing for secure transfer of funds works in the following way. Users need to scan the QR code on the WattStation charger which will identify the station and pricing structure for that charger. With this information drivers can then pay for the charge via PayPal. Michael Mahan, product general manager, EV infrastructure for GE Energy’s Industrial Solutions business, said, that this collaboration with PayPal will enable EV drivers pay for their charge in a convenient and secure way. Simplicity and convenience are the key factors for mass adoption of any type of technology and this is evident when one makes use of the WattStation Connect software platform.
