Female employees of Daimler AG take part in 2012 Aïcha des Gazelles desert rally: Mercedes-Benz Vito and Sprinter as rally vehicles

It will be for the third time that woman employees of Daimler will be taking part in Aicha des Gazelles, a desert rally which will see the all woman teams set off through the desert. Marie Le Neillon-Quesseveur, Susanne Ehmer, Christina Ines Ackermann, Coralie Lejeune, Daniela Snyders and Julia Salamon were the female employees who set off on this exciting adventure while Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes Benz Vans was present to flag them off and wish them the best of luck on this challenging but thrilling quest.

Of the three vehicles taking part in the rally there will be two Vito models and one Sprinter.  Vito models have been specially fitted with a host of equipment to make it suitable for rally driving and possess bucket seats, under ride sand guards and special desert tyres. Sprinter is also seen with bucket seats and under ride sand guard and desert tyres.

This year, the Daimler dessert rally is taking place from 17th to 30th March in Morocco where teams are expected to cover a distance of 2500 kms.  150 teams will be seen at the starting grid and winners will not be based on speed but on the ability to find the shortest route between checkpoints without the use of GPS, binoculars or mobile phones.

An interesting feature is that there is no prize money waiting for winners at the end of this rally.  All revenue generated will go towards financing teams of doctors to offer medical aid to nomads and settlers in the interiors of Morocco. A special medically equipped convoy of travelling clinics will also travel through the country during the period of the rally where they will conduct life saving operations along the route.
