The effects of demonetization can be felt across the auto industry with December sales way below expectations causing much upheaval throughout the segment. Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s Ranjangaon plant, from where the Jeep Compass SUV is set to be produced later this year, has been in shut down mode during the past month as not a single car was produced from the plant in Dec 2016.
Fiat India produced 1,276 units during October – November 2016, hoping that the festive season will bring in more sales. But that was not the case. This led to overstocking at company dealerships forcing the company to take the stand of shutting production at the Ranjangaon plant in December 2016.
Fiat sells the Punto, Linea, Avventura and Abarth 595 in India as of now. Earlier this month, they announced a huge price cut of up to INR 77,000 with the Linea and Punto range. They will soon commence production of the Jeep Compass SUV at the plant. It was back in October 2014, when Rushlane had first reported about Fiat India’s plans of starting local production of Jeep at their plant in Ranjangaon near Pune.
