Fiat Punto Evo, Avventura with 113 bhp 1.4 T-Jet to launch by mid-2015

Fiat Punto Evo and Avventura are considered to be underpowered vehicles due to slow pickup even though their engines are rated at around 90 PS peak power. They are not bad at all for serene ride in the city, and there are no complaints when it comes to performance on the highway, as the engines are tuned for mid-range punch.

Sales of Fiat Avventura and Punto Evo combined has been just about 800 units per month.
To quench the thirst of enthusiasts who feel Punto or Avventura could’ve been the right choice if they had more accessible power, Fiat is said to launch both cars with new 1.4 litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine variants, that will clock max power of 113 bhp @ 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 207 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. There is no information about change in transmission system, current 5-speed manual gearbox doing duty in Fiat Linea 1.4 T-Jet would be carried over as well.

New Fiat Punto Evo 1.4 T-Jet variant will compete head on with Volkswagen Polo GT TSI, which uses 1.2 litre turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engine, producing 105 PS max power @ 5,000 rpm and 175 Nm peak torque @ 1,500 – 4,100 rpm, coupled to 7-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox).

Launch price of new Punto Evo T-Jet variant would be around Rs. 7 lakh, while Avventura T-Jet would be priced at around Rs. 8 lakh. Price of Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is hiked from Rs. 7.99 lakhs to Rs. 8.18 lakhs. (All prices ex-showroom Delhi)
