Fiat Tipo gets off to a successful start in Italy, garners over 1,000 bookings

Designed in Italy by FIAT Chrysler Automobiles, Fiat Tipo sedan is produced at TOFAS plant in Turkey. Already launched in Turkey, where it is known as Aegea, the second market to receive the Aegea sedan is Italy, Fiat’s home country.

New Fiat Tipo is a replacement to the ageing Linea sedan. It is offered in four engine options that include 90 PS 1.3 liter and 120 PS 1.6 liter Multijet diesel engines, besides 1.6-liter E Torq and 1.4 liter FIRE petrol engines. Each of these engines are mated to 5 speed manual, 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic gearbox options. Pricing ranges from € 12,500 to €19,900 (INR 8.89 lakhs to INR 14.15 lakhs).

A larger car than Fiat Linea, Fiat Tipo sedan measures 4.5 meters in length, 1.78 meters in width, 1.48 meters in height and 2.64 meters in wheelbase while it has boot volume of 510 liters.

2016 Fiat Tipo is expected to be launched in India by 2017.

Fiat Tipo sedan will be exported to over 40 markets across Europe, Middle East and Africa, where it will replace Linea from the company’s line-up. Fiat also plans manufacture Tipo in Argentina, to cater to demands of Latin American markets.

After the Tipo sedan, FCA will launch the Tipo hatchback and Tipo estate variants by April 2016. Fiat Tipo hatchback will receive a front end design identical to the Fiat Tipo sedan, while its rear end will receive revised tail lamps extending to the side while a chrome strip connects the tail lamps.

New rear spoiler and concealed exhaust pipes are also a part of its rear end makeup. Though interiors have not yet been detailed, spyshots indicate several features borrowed from the Tipo sedan. It receives a three spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a 5” UConnect infotainment system. Engine specifications on the Fiat Tipo hatchback follow same lineup as seen on the Tipo sedan.
