Fuel attendant fills diesel in this MLA’s Volvo XC90 Petrol Hybrid worth INR 1.65 crore – Guess what he did next

Karnataka MLA, Mohiudeen Bava became the first Indian to purchase the Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid Excellence in India. This prized vehicle carries a price tag of INR 1.65 crores and was handed over to its new buyer on last Saturday. However, after being filled with wrong fuel on Monday, this XC90 had to be sent back to the service center to clean up the fuel tank.

When Bava’s son took the Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid Excellence to the fuel station in Mangalore on Monday, 27th March 2017, he instructed the attendant to fill petrol in the SUV. However, due to an oversight, the attendant filled up the tank of this petrol hybrid vehicle with diesel.

The error was realized when Bava’s son went to pay the bill. The attendant apologized profusely for the mistake but it did result in the brand new Volvo being sent back to the service center for a complete fuel tank clean up.

Most SUVs in India run on diesel and hence this could have caused the fuel pump attendant to make this mistake. Had the error not been realized and the car been started, the damage would have been much more and repair costs would have escalated.

The petrol engine running on diesel would have caused the fuel injection pump to break. Diesel would have generated a lot of heat and caused manifold damage to the engine of the vehicle. However, in this case, damage with not be much as the mistake was luckily noted at the fuel station itself.

Surprisingly, opposing to the image most MLA’s and minister’s have in the country, Mr Bava forgave the fuel attendant for the error. Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid Excellence is the most expensive Volvo car on offer in the world. It was launched last year in India and is exclusively made to order. It is powered by a 2.0 liter petrol engine which along with a electric motor delivers 400 hp and 640 Nm, making it the most powerful hybrid car on offer in India. Thanks to being a hybrid, it delivers 47 kmpl!
