First Indian motorsport driver Aditya Patel heads to 24 hrs of Nürburgring: Drives for Pro-Handicap e.V. team in an Audi TT (sport model)
German luxury car manufacturer, Audi announces motorsport driver Aditya Patel’s 3 year contract having secured Aditya a seat with the Pro-Handicap e.V. team. He will participate in the VLN endurance series in Germany to garner much needed experience and exposure to international racing. Aditya is the first Indian motorsport driver to race in the 24 hours of Nürburgring.
The Pro-handicap e.V team has a reliable car in the Audi TT (sport model) and has participated in 24 hours of Nürburgring 7 times, having completed the race on each occasion. Having tested already, Aditya participates in the 4 hour endurance race on 14th April 2012.
Audi India Head, Michael Perschke had this to say. “Audi has a rich history in international motorsport and has produced many greats over the years. The talent pool of race car drivers in India is growing rapidly and we plan to develop young racers by providing them with the right opportunities to make a career in international motorsport. Aditya is a talented racer and our support to him is a testament to that vision.”
Aditya Patel’s tryst with motorsport started with the 2001 JK Tyre National Racing Championship at the impressionable age of 14. Sponsorships from MAS Holdings, JK Tyre, and Petra Energy ensured a growing motorsports career graph as he went on to debut internationally in 2009 with Volkswagen Polo Cup in Germany. 2010 saw the Indian Motorsports racer graduate to the VW Scirocco R Cup in Germany. At the Scirocco R-Cup 2011 he finished 5th. In December 201, he became the first Indian racer to test the Audi R8 LMS for 2012 ADAC GT Masters in Oschersleben.
While he was selected for the Indian Racing League i1 Super Series to be held early in 2012, this signing up didn’t prove quite as lucky with the debut racing league being postponed. With the Volkswagen Motorsports being active in spotting and nurturing young racers, it comes as no surprise that more and more boys and girls from the country make it to international racetracks. Sponsors like Audi India, JK Tyre, and others are working strategically to define Aditya’s racing career as he becomes familiar with international racing platforms behind the wheels of Audi performance vehicles including the Audi TT and Audi R8 sports car.
