First VW Ameo review says its a Polo with a boot

First showcased earlier this month, and then at the 2016 Auto Expo, first VW Ameo review is now online. Overdrive has managed to test drive the car and they say that VW Ameo is nothing but a Polo with boot. Well, that was largely expected.

But this is what would help VW India to garner more sales at the lowest possible investment. Designed and developed at a cost of about INR 720 crore, VW Ameo is built on the same platform as that of the Polo and Vento. In addition to that, almost every exterior and interior part is same as that of Polo / Vento, except for the rear design which is where Ameo finds its identity.

This makes more sense than making an all-new car on a new platform which wil lnot only require millions in investment and R&D, but also time. Ameo has been readied in under two years, and will compete with the likes of Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire in a segment which sees about 35,000 sales every month.

Powering the new VW Ameo will be 1.2 liter petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engine options. These are same as on offer with Polo, but with minor improvements.

VW India has revealed that the 1.5 liter on board the Ameo will be tuned to deliver more power and torque, about 2 PS and 10 Nm more. In addition to this, fuel efficiency too has been increased by 7%.

Below are a few features of the new Ameo:
