Flipkart, India’s leading online marketplace is set to offer car and bike related online services that not only includes facilities like buying and selling cars / bikes, but also irritating things like payment of road tax, paperwork with regard to vehicle insurance and a host of after sales services – all at a click of a button.
These services which have already been rolled out in Bengaluru will be introduced across the country by July 2016. This will not only make online purchasing of vehicles easier but will also boost online sales accessories across the Flipkart platform.
This new initiative as announced by Flipkart will allow the company to actively compete with both Amazon and Snapdeal. Flipkart offering these added services to automobile buyers will also see the company compete with CarDekho, CarTrade, Carwale.
Founded by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal in 2007, Flipkart commenced sales of both four and two wheelers on its online platform and started with sales of Mahindra KUV100. Besides Mahindra, Flipkart also works with Kawasaki and TVS Motors and seeks to expand sales and services to other automakers in the future.
In the last one year, sales related to automotive products has seen growth to the extent of 600% on Flipkart. Sales of car mobile holders have seen a 1,000% increase in growth while sales of car refrigerators have also seen increased demand by 300% month on month.
Flipkart started sales of auto parts and accessories last year and noting its increased demand decided to have a separate dedicated category for the automotive industry.
