FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) 1st round 22-24 March 2013

A gypsy goes airborne at the last historic South India RallyAVT premium South India Rally the opening round for FMSCI Indian Rally Championship 2013 is set to run from 22nd to 24th March 2013 and is being organized by the Madras Motor Sports Club. Drivers and co-drivers local and international will be expected to grace this event to fight for the top honor in the event. The new season has a list of five different championships/ categories which are as follows: Indian Rally Championship, Indian national Rally Championship (INRC) – overall, INRC 1600 Championship, junior INRC and new introduced Indian SUV Rally Championship.

Sponsor for this event is the A.V Thomas Group of Companies. Event comprises of three dirt stages viz. AAVISA, race around madras motor track and IVCRL. These stages are run three times each to determine the winner. Highlight of the ATV Premium South India Rally is the 1st round of the 7 round national Championship. The leg features a 300 km long stretch out of which 117 km will strictly be a competitive section.  Each leg starts with vehicles running the Super Special Stage before moving off to other tracks.

Mr. Manoj Dalal, Clerk of Course, AVT South India Rally said, “This is the opening round of the 2013 INRC championship and we are keen to create a benchmark for the rest of the season. After a long time the entry list includes some of the leading manufacturers in the country and we hope to attract even more. We were fortunate to have National Racing Champion Arjun Balu test the stages, and more importantly he was very impressed with all the stages. We are keen to improve the show every year and hope the drivers enjoy this challenge.”

Three Volkswagen Polo vehicles will be taking part in the event. Two of them will be seen in the INRC 1600 cc class while the 3rd will be seen in action in junior INRC and will be driven by Rohan Pawar from Pune. For the first time a Mitsubishi evolution 10 model will be seen in the ONRC category and will be driven by Sameer Thapar from Delhi with Vivek Ponnusamy as his co-driver. He is the lone entrant in the IRC category. 2012 Champion Gaurav Gill will be taking part in the SUV category and leading a three man Mahindra works team driving XUV 500 vehicles.
