Gurmeet Virdi along with his co-driver Kirpal Singh Tung of Gerrari Offroaders Chandigarh scored 2177 out of 2700 and emerged victorious at the end of week-long off-roading competition – Force Gurkha RFC India 2016 which was being held in Goa.
In what is seen as India’s toughest off-road motor sporting event, Gurmeet who was at 3rd position on Day 1, finished the Prologue Special States 7-12 with 90 points in three of the stages. Day 2 also saw Gurmeet and co driver Kirpal Singh Tung in the lead with a total score of 987 out of 1,200 points. The Chandigarh driver maintained their lead for the remaining of the stages.
In second position, with a total score of 2166 points was the Force Motors team headed by Merwyn Lim and co- driver Hamizan Bin Abdul Hamid while Tan Eng Joo and Tan Choon Hong also representing Force Motors, finished third. In a fourth position was Bijender Singh and Gajender Singh of Delhi based off-road club NIOC while Hyderabad’s Charminar Off-road Adventure Club led by Abinav Reddy Nukala and Laxmikanth Reddy Thota finished fifth with score of 816 points.
Gurmeet Virdi was ecstatic at his performance. He thanked his team and support team. The events were much tougher this year as compared to the past two years. The level of the competition was stepped up and all teams were well prepared to take on the challenge while perfect coordination existed between drivers and co- drivers. These events, unlike those in the past saw 12-15 strong competitors while rain and slush added to driver’s woes having to face challenges even at the early stages of the competition.
